Systems Designer - Senior Developer

Full time permanent position in Boston


This is a senior developer position in the Front Office Team supporting US Fixed Income investment operations.

The role offers the opportunity to work directly and in collaboration with the key business stakeholders involved in sourcing and managing new public and private fixed income investments.

A strong business focus, familiarity with investment processes and terminology, a desire to interact with business clients, and excellent communication skills are essential.

Responsibilities include:
• Translate business user requests for information and technical support services into systems requirements.
• Review, analyze, design and develop analytical decision support software tools to advance fixed income portfolio management activities, in adherence with established SDLC and SQA methodologies.
• Produce detailed specifications for development, testing and implementation of bond calculations based on key fixed income risk measures, including average life, duration, yield, and OAS.
• Integrate internally developed applications with vendor products (e.g. Bloomberg, FT Interactive) to support a variety of business processes, including bond pricing, cash flow projection, compliance monitoring, and CBO modeling.
• Work with business partners and other systems resources to understand requirements in order to formulate effective designs and code.
• Design, code and test maintenance work requests and enhancements for key Investment systems.
• Provide post implementation support for all deliverables, as well as production support for systems.
• Follow IT processes, including configuration management, in order to produce quality, timely deliverables and IT solutions for business partners.

Requirements

Requirements include outstanding computer skills along with 5-7 years of relevant experience, ideally with an investment bank or asset management firm. Top-notch organization skills, communication skills and leadership skills necessary. The incumbent must enjoy accepting challenges and persist until the goals are achieved. They must also be a self starter and be able to think outside the box when faced with complex, technical and business challenges.

• Knowledge of the Securities industry
• Proficient in SQL, SQL Server 7, Sybase, MS Access, Visual Basic
• Ability to allocate time efficiently; handle multiple demands and competing priorities.
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of system design.
• Ability to be flexible and adaptable when dealing with change.
• Strong problem solving skills and analytical ability.
• Able to grasp new concepts and information quickly
• Able to work well independently, as well as with others as part of a team
• Knowledge of IT infrastructure and procedures for managing change
• Customer service & business partner orientation

Helpful:
• Experience in UNIX, Oracle and Informatica
• Experience in Business Objects and ClearCase.
• Architecture experience is highly desired
• Experience in supporting Investment systems, particularly portfolio analysis functions
