My client is a looking for a Senior Database Administrator Architect (Sybase/SQL Server). Located in downtown Boston, they are a leader and pioneer in their industry with a cutting edge IT group. They offer an excellent employee benefits program.
· The Sybase/SQL Server Senior Database Administrator Architect is responsible for working with development teams on designing and building databases and data warehouses, logical data modeling and performance of the database access from the applications.
· Work with and provide leadership and direction to a team of database developers to meet technical requirements.
· Have in depth expertise with data security, storage solutions, database virtualization and replication.
· Day-to-day administration, daily maintenance and optimization tasks and assisting developers in the creation of new databases.
· Provide support to all vendor and packaged applications which use Sybase and SQL server.
QUALIFICATIONS
· 7 to 10 plus years total IT experience
· 5 to 6 plus years in database architecture and data modeling
· 5 to 6 plus years Sybase Database Administration
· 3 to 4 plus years SQL Database Administration
· Knowledge of the financial industry is preferred
· Ability to perform self and team project management (prior technical leadership roles)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Management and implementation of database models, data flow diagrams, database schemas, stored procedures and data standards to support a robust data management infrastructure.
· Experience translating business requirements into conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
· Implement best practices and methodologies in data analysis, design and modeling.
· Experience on Meta Data definition, implementation and maintenance, new business rules identification and implementation to data rules, transformation program library maintenance, XML and data quality.
· Design standards for using normalized data structures, de-normalized structures, and dimensional structures.
· Defines common design patterns for modeling various types of relationships.
· Manage the database security models, both in-house developed as well as Windows Auth (AD) based security; Also develop policies to restrict over-privileging and enforce it.
· Manage a production environment consisting of 50+ databases most of which are read-intensive databases with a large data load cycle while some are OLTP-based mission critical trading systems.
· Manage HA and DR solutions including Sybase and MS Cluster Servers, Database Mirroring, Log Shipping and Sybase/SQL Replication.
· Support application development by designing and building new tables, and writing optimized SQL.
· Develop custom scripts to automate various database management processes.
· Safeguard our production systems by implementing the right security policies.
· Assist in the database release management process, be the “gate-keeper” and ensure only QUALITY code is released into production.
· Help troubleshoot performance problems using a variety of methods (tracing, query optimization review, error logs, etc).
· Resolve blocking and deadlocking issues, high CPU / memory, analyze job timeouts, ETL loader performance problems.
· Manage database maintenance jobs to ensure optimal performance and data availability.
· Define and enforce database standards, best practices, methodologies, processes and procedures
· Architect and implement reports within SSRS 2005/2008.
· Research new technologies to enhance performance, heighten security, ensure uptime, automate common/redundant administrative duties.
· Provide first, second and third tier support on-call rotation to all mission critical production systems.
