Full time position at a financial firm in Boston
Reporting to the Desktop Lead, this position is part of the IT Infrastructure group. The Desktop Engineer has primary responsibility for the configuration, and operational management of all desktops, mobile devices, and various desktop applications, and works closely with the Service Desk and Systems teams to resolve issues in a timely manner.
Primary Responsibilities:
Hardware
Desktop and laptop hardware support
General Hardware Inventory control (Desktops, laptops, printers, phones, PDA's and wireless devices)
Loaner/Training laptop inventory, build, deploy and support
Remote support of devices that can connect to the network to be used for VPN or Citrix access
Desktop hardware procurement
Hardware Recycling
Hardware proof of concept research
Desktop, laptop, PDA, printer and phone deployment
Computer and telephone moves
Hardware refresh\repurposing
Network patching and 1st level support
Warranty repair through Dell
Software
Desktop and laptop software support
Virtual machine configuration and support
Bloomberg installation and support
Laptop encryption and decryption
Software distributions through Altiris
Work with developers for requirements to deploy a package
Create automated scripts
Desktop system builds (Imaging with Acronis and Altiris)
Desktop backups and restores
Desktop software procurement
Citrix support
System Administration
New hire setup
Create, delete, and manage accounts in AD
Manage Citrix desktop connections
Assign permissions to and configure wireless connections
Manage remote access accounts
ActiveSync account administration - Norman Lallier
Exchange administration and 1st level support
Printers
Printer maintenance and support
Print Server Administration - Bob Ross
Create, update, and remove printer queues, update drivers, create sharing security
Blackberry
Purchase, manage, and support Blackberry devices - Norman Lallier (Primary)
BES account administration - Norman Lallier (Primary)
Manage accounts through Verizon and AT&T
Monthly review of accounts\billing

Conference support - Audio and Video
Conference Tech support
Includes room, laptop, printing, and wireless support, meetings involved in planning the event
Working with the hotel and hired production company.
Making yourself available during the day to clients and guests for a myriad of needs.
Pre conference and post conference board meetings.
Liaison between service desk and other teams - Many problems routed to desktop for diagnosis before escalation to server, network, telecom, security, DBA or developer teams.
Ad hoc research requests
Mandatory requirements:
Undergraduate degree in technology discipline or equivalent experience
MCSE Certification
5+ years experience in the financial services industry
Skills:
Experience working with IP networking, networking protocols and understanding of security related technologies including encryption, IPsec, PKI, VPNs, firewalls, proxy services, DNS, electronic mail and access-lists
Experience working with Cisco security appliances, routers, and switches
Experience with Juniper SSL VPN and Firewalls
Familiarity with Active Directory
Excellent, proven troubleshooting skills
Experience supporting market data services (Reuters, Bloomberg, FactSet)
Experience working with relevant operating system security (Windows, Linux, etc.)
Strong written and verbal communications and interpersonal skills
Must exhibit a team-oriented approach
