SQL Implementation Manager

Full time position at a financial firm 15 minutes West of Boston.

Summary:
Project owner and lead of a SQL 2000 to SQL 2008 migration targeted for 2010. Act as a SQL liaison between the production technology team and the New Technology team and will work in close alliance with the Development, QA, Infrastructure, IT Production and Helpdesk support teams in providing service excellence and platform insight to enhance the efficiency, integrity, safety and soundness of our SQL systems. Develop administrative as well as optimization and monitoring efficiencies in all SQL platforms. Visual FoxPro (VFP) experience is preferred.


Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Ownership of upgrading our existing SQL 2000 platforms (Production, DEV, QA, UAT, Train) to SQL 2008.
Formulation of monitoring, optimization and capacity planning of all RPS SQL instances
Provide guidance on managing database growth and database indexing and general SQP environment health
Troubleshoot production issues, provide expedited resolution and 24 x 7 support for mission critical systems
Assist with and develop ETL processes and data warehouse development
Work with key vendors (EMC, Microsoft) to identify problems and propose solutions
Lead weekly Core/New technology team “SQL Forum” where common challenges are discussed
Manage SQL DBA
Assist Core and New Technology teams on VFP to SQL table migrations
Develop an audit-proof SQL Security methodology and policy, using ADS best practices
Create a library of SQL documentation
Review and provide recommendations to change control and SQL source code management practices
Evaluate new technologies and recommend appropriate solutions to support company products and services
Collaborate with users and domain experts. Strive for establishing a high-level of trust & credibility


Job Requirements :

10+ years MS SQL Administration: expertise in MS SQL server 2000, 2005 and 2008
Demonstrated experience with a SQL 2000 to SQL 2008 migration
Experience with Windows Active Directory, and SQL security integration
Experience with SQL performance optimization on EMC or other enterprise storage systems
Experience with SQL Server Integration services and DTS
In depth understanding of SQL Server architecture, tools and security
Experience supporting systems that have high transaction rates, and large volumes of data
Hands on manager, potentially responsible for 2 -3 direct reports
Ability to multi-task and operate under tight deadlines and high profile situations
Excellent written and verbal communications
Will be required to occasionally works evenings, nights and weekends
Strong inclination towards knowledge exchange
Ability to work independently and on a team
Mastery of Microsoft Office
Visual FoxPro, .Net and Oracle experience a plus
Financial Industry experience preferred
