Business Systems Developer - TCL / Java

Client: $30 billion Quantitative Investment Management Firm
Full time position. Development tools are currently TCL but moving towards Java.
Candidate with Portfolio Accounting / back office knowledge open to using TCL with longer term plan of moving to Java is ideal.

Position Description:
The position will be a member of Business Systems Development team within the broader IT team, reporting to the manager of the Business Systems Development team. The primary objective of the role is to work with internal clients and senior developers to:

• Provide support to internal clients for existing business applications. These include investment accounting, performance measurement and CRM.
• Expand capabilities of existing intranet platform
• Extend current open source architecture to take advantage of new technologies.

Key Attributes:Knowledge of portfolio accounting or performance measurement systems is a plus. This should include experience with systems from both the user perspective and from a system administration perspective. Candidate should have experience with transaction processing and position recordkeeping and be familiar with associated terminology.
The position requires a blend of proven development skills, industry knowledge and business analysis skills. The ideal candidate will also have strong problem solving skills as well as attention to detail. Candidate should have experience translating user requirements into functional code. Required output may include web pages, spreadsheets, PDF reports or data extracts.
Additionally, the position requires interaction and co-operation with members of other departments. As a result, the ideal candidate will have proven interpersonal skills, be confident, self-motivated and possess demonstrable project management abilities. They must be comfortable handling multiple assignments simultaneously and be able to assess priorities when necessary. The ability to evaluate the effort required to complete a project and to meet the estimated completion date are
important.

Requirements:• Proven development skills
• Knowledge of relational databases and SQL
• Solid business analysis skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• 3+ years development or accounting systems experience

Preferred:
• Comfortable with UNIX environment
• Database experience: Sybase, SQL
• Knowledge of scripting languages
• Experience with HTML, CSS and JavaScript
• Experience with scheduling software: Autosys
