Job Description
The systems director will have the responsibility for supporting all existing and new applications and projects that enable the derivative business functions within Investment division. This hands-on position is located in Boston and offers the opportunity to liaise with front-office, risk-management, middle-office and back-office global clients, onshore and offshore development teams and vendors. The successful candidate will collaborate with each of these groups to provide technical solutions and requires a solid background in technology, specifically related to systems that support derivative straight-through-processing, accounting and risk management. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience supporting and providing solutions in a global trading environment with geographically distributed teams. Further, a strong business focus, familiarity with business processes within front, middle and back offices and terminology, a desire to partner with a diverse client-base and excellent communication skills are also required.
Responsibilities will include
* Develop and implement a long-term technology strategy to support business needs.
* Establish effective relationships with all system users across the company.
* Ensure that all solutions meet the mandated regulatory and compliance requirements for the industry.
* Establish a strong control systems environment.
* Review and sign off on technical solutions and architecture and implementation plans.
* Manage system availability and service delivery along with future capacity requirements.
* Ensure production and development environments support the requirements of the technology team.
* Ensure proper change and release management for successful production implementations; work with offshore team to develop test strategies, plans and cases to ensure initiatives being implemented meet expected deliverables.
* Develop, mentor, motivate and challenge direct reports and staff
* Evaluate and ensure appropriate systems development (SDLC) and project management processes are being utilized.
* Exercise judgment in identifying issues, developing plans as business conditions change and either develop recommendations or make decisions for changes in plans.
* Conduct feasibility studies, evaluate risks, develop and sell business cases, and implement appropriate technological alternatives, ensuring cost effectiveness.
* Share accountability for clients' satisfaction, system availability and stability.
* Use industry experience and contacts to assist Investments Division in understanding what other similar companies are doing.
* Keep abreast of new market developments in derivatives.
Qualifications:
* BS in Computer science or related field; a Masters degree is preferable
* 8+ years of management or team lead experience
* Knowledge and experience with derivatives (fixed income, commodity, currency, equity)
* Experience with Java, .NET, databases, Matlab, C is desirable
* Experience working with Bloomberg, Reuters and other market data providers
* Systems knowledge in Summit, Findur/Endur, Murex, Calypso and other similar applications in a front to back office environment
* In-depth understanding of strategic business objectives combined with broad industry knowledge of investment products, market practices and securities operations.
* Knowledge of industry compliance and regulatory requirements.
* Proven capability in initiating, motivating and managing change effectively.
* Highly developed presentation and communication skills.
* Demonstrated leadership and project management skills and methodology with a service oriented interpersonal style.
* Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in an international setting.
* Experience supporting global trading and development environment
* Experience managing resource and costs within budget
* Strong influencing and negotiation skills
* Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive cross-department relationships to attain collaborative solutions
* Demonstrated ability to manage pressure and to provide clear direction to people during times of crisis
* Strong application and architecture knowledge of systems
* Thorough understanding of current business objectives and ability to initiate system strategies to support them.
