Websphere Administrator

Client is a Mutual Fund firm in Boston.

* Works in a distributed server computing environment housing an array of webapplications in J2EE, ASP and .NET.
* The main focus is on configuring application servers (IBM Websphere, Portal), creating automated code deployment strategies, defining nodes and cells to create highly scalable and supportable web architecture on Linux platform.
* Responsibilities include installation, configuration and troubleshooting of software, and day to day operational support. Member of a rotating on-call team.
* Implements/administers Web technologies using web application servers (Websphere 5.1, 6.x and Websphere Portal 6, IIS, ColdFusion). Administration and knowledge of multiple application servers preferred. Experience with other members of the IBM WebSphere family of applications would also be helpful.
* Creates and implements strategies for code deployment in a heterogeneous clustered web service environment.
* Administers WebSphere Portal applications which includes configuration, clustering, administration, performance tuning, deploying portlets/ pages, for portal applications.
* Uses industry best practices, with particular strengths in managing web services technologies. Implements Web standards and processes around various data center activities to measure performance, capability, and capacity.
* Works with managers/business analysts to define system needs and design; Creates technical specifications and support documentation; Acts as a consultant to others within the department to share information and advise other development and infrastructure efforts.

Requirements:

* Bachelor's degree or equivalent education/experience* Minimum of 5 years' related experience in Web technology administration and practice preferably in Financial Services. Experience should include technical production and implementation infrastructure support background. (Linux Admin, web server Admin)
* Technical competence in the following Web environments: IBM Websphere and Portal, Apache, IIS. A solid understanding of Java classes, foundations and framework strongly preferred.* Knowledge of best practices in Web systems including security, performance, standards, procedures, controls, and Web technical design and architecture.
* Significant experience in establishing, running and supporting a highly available, redundant server environment.
* Must have advanced problem solving skills; good verbal and written communication skills; Ability to work independently as well as with team members to solve problems.
* Ability to think strategically and apply strategy to the Web environment; Solid understanding of Systems Development Life Cycle models.
* Previous application software development experience in Java environment would be useful. But most of the work is on the server administration side.
* An active participant and contributor for leading implementation and troubleshooting efforts and aiding in design efforts.


Additional Information:
Pluses:

* Knowledge and experience in Ant, Jacl, Jython, application deployment
on WAS, Linux shell scripting, Networking, JBoss, weblogic, Tomcat;
Linux/UNIX administration.

* Preference to candidates with Systems administration experience (Linux-Unix) with knowledge of clusters, replication, application hardening, DB interaction in web context.

* Experience and knowledge of disaster recovery processes, enterprise monitoring, security and hardening.

* IBM certifications coupled with industry experience are a big plus
